The RCMP manages the CPIC website on behalf of the Canadian law enforcement community.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I use this website to search for a bicycle or vehicle?

If you're suspicious that a bicycle or vehicle might be stolen property, you can use this website to see if it has been reported stolen to police. Property reported stolen is entered into the CPIC database by police jurisdictions across Canada.

For example, if you are buying a used bicycle or car and you're suspicious that it could be stolen, you can search here to find out.

What kinds of motor vehicles can I search for?

You can search for any motor vehicle with a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This includes cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, farm vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and ATVs.

Is an e-bike considered a bicycle or motor vehicle?

E-bikes may be classified differently depending on the province. If the e-bike has a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) you can search under vehicles. If it only has a serial number you can search under bicycles. If the e-bike has both numbers, we suggest you try both.

I searched and got the message "Possible stolen vehicle". What do I do?

Please contact your local police to confirm the information and ask for assistance. The vehicle may or may not be stolen property and your local police can help you determine what to do next.

Can I use this website to report my bicycle or vehicle stolen?

No. If your bicycle or vehicle has been stolen please contact your local police to report it.
